We are the vampires, like living stone.
Sangsue waited eagerly for his name. He was a troublemaker, and any type of troublemaker would be kept an eye on. Almost as close an eye as she kept on every human who resided in the city. The war with the humans had made her paranoid to anything or anyone that might cause unrest in her domain. Which he seemed capable of doing, considering how much he had upset the dragoness, who was now hopefully back to calm in her territory. She deliberated how she would punish him if he caused any more trouble. Perhaps if the next person was angry enoguh, she just wouldn't intervene. That would do him justice.
"Forgive me, I had not realized you held such a high place." Sangsue rolled her eyes, as if that was really possible. Considering how the guards obeyed her so readily, and the authority she displayed, then either he was either incredibly unobservant, or stupid. And this. . .Hatter. An unusual name. She assumed it was a nickname, as no parent in their right mind would name their child 'Hatter'. "And I am the most charming Kititran that you will ever meet." Sang's eyebrows shot up. Well then. He had a bit of an ego there, didn't he? If she would spend some time with him, which was unlikely, then her goal would be to give him a healthy dose of humility. It would almost be worth the time it would take.
Sangsue had to decide whether to glower, or just turn away in annoyance. She did niether, just looked at him incredulously for a few moments. "Well, you seem to have a high opinion of yourself, don't you Hatter? As for your charm, I could hardly agree with you there." Her tone was sour. Arrogance was one thing she could hardly stand. She fully intended to end this little exchange as soon as possible, before her day was permenently messed up.

Hatter shrank back when he saw the vampire's eyebrows raise in such a sarcastically inquisitive manner. As for your charm, I could hardly agree with you there. He let a sad smile creep its way across his face. Well, she sure wasn't convinced. Hatter didn't think he was ever confident that he would, or was he just trying to falsely think he was at the top? He shook his head. "No, I don't have a high opinion of myself." he told her truthfully. His tone revealed that he was being sincere. "I'm a lowlife." Everyone told him that. Everyone told him that he was scum, he wasn't worth the time that the gods gave him. And after being told that so many times, he was starting to believe it. There was still that little bit of pride in there, but he was starting to believe it.
He sighed. "And I'm only the most charming Kititran I've ever met, because I'm the only one I've ever met." He looked up to the lady's eyes to meet them. They did not give his emotions away, but instead held the ever present flame of curiosity. He smiled a crooked smile before saying, "I got nobody." with a laugh. As if he were laughing at how much of a loser he was. And he was one, he knew that. He couldn't even defend himself. He had to run to other places that would defend for him. At least he was good at running.

The mans little confident facade went away rather quickly at Sangsue's words. He contradicted his last words. "I'm a lowlife." His tone suggested that he really believed this. Apparently no one liked him, if he had had that drilled in to him enough that he seemed to believe it as much as he did. He was the only kititran he had ever met. Well that was not the biggest surprise, they weren't really found as commonly as other species, not yet at least. Sang was sure that more would be showing up in the near future. But how long had he been here? She got the impression that he hadn't really met many people at all for that matter.
"I got nobody." So even if he had met people, then he had not gotten on their good side. She deduced that it could be a frequent problem, based on the temper he had awakened in the dragoness. But the dragoness might have had a bit of a temper issue. . .Beside the point. Sangsue felt a tiny twitch of pity for Hatter, she knew what it felt like not to have friends. The first years of her life were spent in relative solitude. Not that she had particularly minded. But Sangue then silently reprimanded herself. She did not allow herself to feel pity for her citizens, she would not be a soft ruler. But then she didn't want to seem harsh and make the people hate her. . .Ah well. "I understand how you must feel then. What efforts have you given to try and befriend someone though? From what I have seen, your method doesn't seem to be working.'
She really couldn't resist throwing in a little sarcasm there. But he deserved it for disturbing her morning as he had. Who knows, perhaps he might become at least her aquaintance? It was never a bad thing to have allies in your domain, and this guy really seemed like he could use someone. Someone who at least didn't hate him. She needed more friends herself. . .While she was incredibly fond of Mou, a ferret did not bring all that much company. It's much nicer when your companion can talk back. But why was she even thinking like this? Merely a minute ago, she was fed up with him, and ready to throw him out. Maybe she was getting a little too soft.

Hatter raised his hand to his stubbly chin and rubbed his mouth. So she knew how he felt? He couldn't imagine her, one of the leaders of this grand civilization of inhumans that she helped create, lonely with no one to talk to or that even likes her. Of course people like her, she had guards and loyal subjects and a co-ruler for God's sake. She had friends. What efforts have you given to try and befriend someone though? From what I have seen, your method doesn't seem to be working. Hatter's brow furrowed together, as he frowned. But he lost the expression almost as quickly as it arrived, and he looked to his left, just to have somewhere to look.
It was true that he hadn't took such measures with the dragoness that had just tried to kill him, but she wasn't all that nice herself. But he did try to make friends, he really did. "What efforts haven't I given?" Hatter answered the vampire's question with one of his own. "I try to talk to everyone, I scratch things out on trees," He raised his hands in a claw-imitating fashion and gestured scratching. "Even if they do talk to me, which is rare in itself, they don't appreciate me as a friend would." He shrugged, and looked back up at the lady in front of him. "Even the humans that I try to make conversation with ignore me." He smiled and laughed, and then shook his head. It seemed he was just he was out of luck. And maybe he was. He had been in a lot more tight situations lately.

Hatter's expression looked doubtful of Sangsue's words. Since the only thing he could be doubtful about was that she knew about having no friends, she assumed that was what he was thinking of. But she did. She really hadn't talked to anybody through elementary school, and she was still pretty anti-social through the rest. But she had acquired a few good friends by that point. "What efforts haven't I given?" Sangsue raised her eyebrows. Well this guy really was not having any luck. What did people find so bad about him? He wasn't that bad of a guy, really. She had only found him so unlikeable because he had disturbed her morning.
"Even the humans that I try to make conversation with ignore me." Sangsue chuckled with him here. That wasn't much of a surprise. The humans were afraid to do anything here, for fear of her harsh punishments. She once again questioned why they even thought it was worth it to stay. And they knew something was weird about the other people. That much was clearly evident, even to their ignorant eyes. But they hadn't figured out what. Sometimes it was funny to watch how uncomfortable they were around people here. She smiled at him. "Don't be too disheartened if the humans ignore you. They prefer to keep to themselves. The 'weird people' tend to make them uncomfortable. By the way, I'm curious; how long have you been here?"

The sound of the vampire's laugh, however small it may have been, was a curious sound to Hatter, for he hadn't heard someone else laugh in he didn't know how long. Sure, he heard himself laugh at things a lot. He laughed at everything. More because he had nothing else to do, than that things were really funny to him. But when the sound of the other's laugh floated softly to his ears, he stopped and shut his mouth unconsciously to just listen. His mahogany eyes were ablaze with a peculiar flame. He observed the lady's mannerisms as she spoke. Hatter had always found it astounding how so many inhumans can swarm around a place where the humans do not know about them. But. . . wait. How long had he been here?
Hatter shifted his eyes to a different place, trying to think. As his gaze drifted up to the high ceiling of the place, he remembered. "Oh, I've been here about. . ." he paused again, rethinking. "About five months." He looked back to the vampire, nodding, satisfied with his recall of time. His thoughts flitted back to his lack of friends, or people that even found him interesting enough to interact with. "And I've learned that werewolves have a sharp racism against felines." he said, looking at the ground. "The hard way." he added, smiling a toothy smile and showing off his sharp canine teeth. "And that daemons are good at standing their ground, and that faeries don't appreciate my humor," Hatter started listing, counting on his fingers to make a point. "And that dragons have less tolerance for me than other creatures. Haha."

The odd Kititran watched Sangsue, with a little more interest than she was used to. Although she was quite accustomed to being paid attention to. They were punished if they didn't. Sangsue smiled to herself a little at this. Authority was a lot of fun sometimes. Five months was a fair amount of time, compared to how long some of the people she had been encountering recently. There had been more newcomers in the recent weeks than usual, although thank God the humans did not make up some of this new group. But the few apartment buildings were almost filled up. No new ones would be accepted anyway. Sangsue got caught up in things like population and upkeep a lot, and it often took away from a conversation. As it was starting to do at the moment.
She listened as he listed off examples of others, things he had no doubt learned from experience, and which sounded pretty accurate. She chuckled again as he mentioned the werewolves dislike for felines. "Haha, well what would you expect?" Sang murmured, half to herself, half to the man. She smiled, refocusing on him. Standing in the middle of the entrance hall was getting a little annoying. What time was it now?. . . There was probably something she should be attending to, having the water supply checked, a task she had forgotten about until now. It probably was, if the blood from the girl which she had stood by and watched be ripped up had gone to the sewers, then she would most likely have heard about it from some angry citizens by this point. But better safe than sorry. Sangsue tried to make sure everything was observed.
And her thoughts were straying again. The conversation with this man was amusing, but it didn't seem to be going anywhere, or accomplishing anything. She would have to politely wrap it up. . ."Yes, dragons do tend to have a bit of a temper. Although I must admit, you don't seem to be that unlikeable. Aside from disturbing my peace."

Yes, dragons did have tempers. Hatter was relieved that the ruler also held this conclusion. That means she wouldn't blame him completely for the little incident that happened today. Speaking of which, he was getting a little uncomfortable in this mansion that he had barged into. He glanced around nervously and noticed that the guards who had escorted the dragoness were back. They were also eying him in a threatening manner. Hatter didn't like it one bit. But the vampire's voice brought his attention slowly back to her. Although I must admit, you don't seem to be that unlikeable. Hatter let a large grin spread across his face. His thoughts were exactly where you think a twenty year old man's thoughts would be. 'Hey, a powerful vampire chick just told me that I was likable!' Yes, something of that sort.
Aside from disturbing my peace. Hatter's grin faded as quickly as it had arrived, and he nodded his head in a confirming gesture. "Right." he said as his eyes were still averted from the vampire's. "Well, I had better stop disturbing your peace then." He bounced for a second on the balls of his feet before turning his head to look at the door, which would be his next destination. He turned back, to say one last thing to the ruler. "Do you know why they call me Hatter?" He asked it as a rhetorical question that he would soon answer, and didn't leave enough time for her to give him obvious answer. "Because I'm always there when they pass the hat," Hatter outstretched one of his hands sideways in effect for his words, but withdrew it quickly when he added, "So to speak." He smiled at the vampire. "So if you ever need me." He tipped his smushed hat to the lady. "Not that you ever would. But eh, you know my name." With a last bright and toothy smile, Hatter turned on his heel, and headed toward the door. But he didn't make it completely out without tripping on the side of the doorway and toppling to the ground. But he made it. Oh yes, indeed he did.
