Sydonia tossed and turned in her large bed, not really sleeping, but not really awake. It was the middle of the night, on the second night since Sangsue had brought her back home. She was grateful to be back home. But she was uncomfortable. She unconsiously kicked the thick comforter off of the bed in all her moving about, and she went from feeling hot and feverish to cold and shivering. A few minutes later, Thurisaz fluttered with a start from his perch near the bed when the werewolf's foot hit the wood of the headboard and made a loud sound. How had she gotten upside down..? She sighed tiredly and rubbed her eyes with the heels of her palms. Trying to sleep was useless. Her dreams were haunted with the face of the girl that she had mutilated. Sydonia sat up in bed.
There was a horrible feeling that was born in her chest. It was almost like a pulling, like a longing, and she only had to contemplate it for a second before she was up and out of bed, absentmindedly dragging a pillow with her as she walked out of her bedroom door. Half asleep, she stumbled out of her personal quarters, past the rooms that were meant for her family members (that were mostly empty), and down the hallway that passed between the werewolves' space, and the vampires. Syd knew exactly where she was going. She had walked the path a million different times. As she entered the space where the vampires were housed, she quickened her walking just the slightest bit. Some of the vampires that were here were still awake, as the light flooded out from underneath their doors and into the dark hallway.
In time, the half asleep werewolf came to the end of the hallway of the vampires' chambers, and stopped in front of the large door that she had seen too many times. Sydonia wanted Sangsue. She would feel safe with her. So instead of knocking (as Sang was probably asleep), she opened the door slowly and walked into the bedroom. Syd stood before a large bed, slightly larger than her own, with only one small figure sleeping under the blankets. As the werewolf crept closer, she heard a small stirring from beside the bed, and looked over to see the vampire's small ferret friend look up at her. Syd scooted away from the rodent, climbing slowly in bed on the side that Sang was not facing, and scooting her way over to the vampire.

Sangsue slept lightly in her bed. She had finally gotten to sleep, after a few hours of tossing about, worrying about Sydonia. This was the first sleep she had gotten since they came back to the mansion. She had been watching over Sydonia, making sure everything was seen to. It had been a couple nights since they had returned, and Syd had not recovered from her weary and injured state. But more than that, she couldn't seem to let go of the things that had happened that one night. Sang could tell they still bothered her friend greatly, even though Syd tried to hide it. Sang wished she could forgive herself more easily. It was just a human. And it wouldn't help her recover any faster.
Sangsue stirred as she heard the door open and Mou scurry off the bed, but she didn't think anything of it and tried to go back to sleep before more thoughts of worry clouded her mind and kept her up. She felt a dip on the other side of the bed, and heard something scooting closer to her. Sang assumed in her half asleep state that it was the ferret, until it was next to her and much bigger and warmer. She forced her eyes open and turned over to see Sydonia curled up next to her with her own pillow. She scooted a bit closer and put her hand on her friends cheek, with worry creasing her forehead. "Is something the matter? She murmured, trying to wake herself up more.

Sydonia felt slightly guilty about waking her friend up, but she should have known it was inevitable. Sang was a vampire, and was going to feel her there no matter what, if she had not already heard her walk in. When she flipped over to look at the werewolf, Syd looked up to meet her brown eyes with light, troubled grey. She closed her eyes and nuzzled gratefully into the touch that her best friend placed on her cheek. She was horridly tired, but just in that state where she was too tired to actually fall asleep. She didn't want Sangsue to worry about her. She was going to be just fine. And she was already burdened with the task of nursing the wolf back to health. Syd asked herself how she could have neglected her own personal well being like that.
Is something the matter? Sydonia only shook her head, and mumbled, half asleep. "I can't sleep. . ." she said, burying her face in her own pillow that she hugged tightly to her chest. "I miss you." The werewolf closed her eyes. She had missed her vampire companion dearly. And now that she had gotten her back, she wanted as much of her in one dose as she could stand.

Sangsue smiled a bit when Sydonia leaned in to her touch. She rubbed her thumb over her friend's cheek a few times, looking at her friend with affection. But she didn't really believe that there wasn't something wrong when Syd said she just couldn't sleep. "I miss you." Sangsue smiled warmly at this. She had missed her friend as well. A great deal. "I miss you too." She scooted closer and wrapped an arm around her friend and rubbed her back in a comforting gesture. "I'm glad you're back home where you belong." And the vampire really was, more than anything. And she would see to it that Sydonia recovered fully, from her injuries and her worries.

It was good to hear that the vampire had missed her as well. During those few days, there was nothing else that she was thinking about rather than her best friend, and her regret and remorse for what had happened. And even though she was back, she was still thinking about it. That's why she couldn't sleep. But she didn't want to think about it anymore. She was tired, and her body was exhausted, and there was nothing that she needed more than to fall peacefully to sleep. She let out a content sigh when she felt the comforting embrace of Sang's arm around her. Her words that went with it made Sydonia feel more safe than she probably ever had. She felt warm, and at home. "I'm so glad I'm back, too." she said, though a yawn took up about half of those words.
Feeling that she was comfortable enough to get those horrid things off of her mind and actually go to sleep, the werewolf nuzzled her head into the crook of the vampire's neck, breathing in her scent fondly. She didn't want to ever leave again, if this was what she was missing when she did. Sydonia, half asleep, silently wished that she could stay like this with her best friend forever. She felt that this was the best place for her. Where she belonged. She quickly fell asleep in Sang's arms.

Sang smiled at her friend cuddling up against her. She petted her friends head with her other hand fondly, and squeezed her gently. She was glad Sydonia was happy to be back. And she was glad that Syd came to her for comfort instead of tossing about in her bed alone. Mou hopped up on the bed and curled up on the pillow next to Sydonia's head, sniffing her hair before closing his tiny rodent eyes. She smiled at the ferret before resting her chin on the top of Sydonia's head. She felt her friend's breathing slow, and was glad that she had finally gotten to sleep. After a little while, Sang was able to fall back to sleep as well, in to a deeper sleep this time now that she knew Syd was ok.
The next morning Sangsue awoke feeling better than she had in a little while. She looked down at her friend still sleeping peacefully in her arms and smiled affectionately before carefully untangling herself. She slid out of bed and stretched before picking up Mou and nuzzling his fur. Sang then left the room to go find someone to tell them that Sydonia's food should go to her room this morning, and what she wanted for breakfast.

The next thing Sydonia knew, she was blinking her eyes open and squinting in the light that filtered in through Sangsue's relatively dark curtains. However, there was no vampire in the bed in front of her, and she tiredly reached an arm out behind her to make sure she wasn't on her backside. Sang was nowhere to be found. Syd sat up sluggishly in bed, feeling more refreshed than she had felt in a little more than a week, and she knew that Sang was probably just down getting food, as her ferret seemed to be missing as well. Despite feeling totally comfortable in the vampire's room, she did feel the slightest bit lonely, and figured that she could go get her own companion before Sangsue came back to see that she had left.
Sydonia climbed slowly off of the large bed, walking slowly out of the room and down the hallway of the vampires. She got all the way across the long hallway in between the vampires' and werewolves' living spaces, and at the mouth of her own hallway, put a hand to her mouth, as if trying to be secretive. "Psssst. Thurisaz." she whispered, knowing that the crow in her room would hear her. Sure enough, the werewolf heard a chaste caw from the end of the hall, and the fluttering of wings as her pet made his way toward her, a mere shadow in the darkness of the corridor. He landed on Syd's shoulder, and after scratching his feathery head affectionately, she set back off to her original spot in Sangsue's room.
Syd sat on the bed with her legs crossed and her small crow nesting contently in the dip that the space her legs made. She heard a few light knocks on the bedroom door, and after calling for whoever it was to come in, she saw that it was her breakfast. Of course, Sang would think of that. She happily accepted the food, taking a small piece of fruit and holding it in front of her for Thurisaz's beak to snatch away.

Sangsue made her way through the kitchens and the main parts of the mansion, checking to make sure everything was in order. She nodded to the guards, spoke to the cooks briefly, and bade good morning to her relatives that she saw around, most of them returning from their nightly hunt. A few of them inquired as to the health of Sydonia, and she responded kindly with a short "She's doing fine, thanks.", and a smile to show she appreciated it. After she was sure that everything was in order and no trouble was being made outside the palace walls, Sang went back up to her room to see if Sydonia has woken up yet.
When she opened the door, she saw that her friend was awake and gotten her pet bird from her room. She also saw that breakfast had been delivered for both of them, and Sydonia was eating hers. Sang walked over to her tray and picked up some bread which she gave to Mou after setting him down on the chair, then brought the rest over to the bed and began eating it. When she had finished, she turned toward her friend. "How are you feeling?" She seemed to be better after actually getting some sleep.

Sydonia had been attacking her breakfast (which included at least five different types of breakfast meats), like she hadn't eaten in days. She had eaten just yesterday. But she still wasn't used to being able to gorge herself on the food in the palace, as she had been malnutritioned for the time she went missing. Syd looked up and away from her food when the bedroom door opened, and behind it was her best friend. She gave a toothy smile, and a "good morning" to the vampire before continuing with her breakfast. The crow now sitting next to her was picking at the plate of fruits, and made a happy clicking noise when Syd reached over to put some bacon on his plate as well.
The werewolf looked up at Sangsue when she asked how she was feeling. Syd shrugged lightly. "I'm feeling okay. Still a little tired. But more refreshed than I feel I ever have been." She smiled happily toward her friend and petted the greasy black feathers on Thurisaz's back. The little crow was hopping over to the edge of the bed toward where Sang's ferret sat, looking at the rodent with curious black eyes. "It feels good to be home." she stated absentmindedly, watching her crow carefully. He looked as if he wanted to eat the poor little ferret. "You just ate. . ." she mumbled to him, pulling him back to her lap, but he just fluttered back to the edge, clicking at the ferret.

Sang watched in amusement as Sydonia ate her breakfast. She acted like she hadn't eaten in a week. Well, she definitely hadn't eaten this well in a little while. It was amazing what a good night of sleep could do for you. At this rate, it was likely that Syd would recover from her wounds more quickly than Sang had thought. This made her happy. Even moreso when her friend spoke of feeling much better. She looked over at the bird inching toward her pet and patted it hesitantly. Birds weren't really Sang's thing, she preferred furry things that ran on four legs. Unless it was large and she could ride it. But she gave the bird a slight glare when it started eyeing Mou, who was disregarding it and nibbling away at his piece of bread.
"It feels good to be home." Sangsue was glad that she was happy here again, the last thing she wanted for for her friend to leave again. She probably wouldn't even want Sydonia to go anywhere alone for a little while, just to make sure nothing happened to make her run away again. Sang inched closer and put her arms around Sydonia's shoulders, conveying that she was glad that she was back where she should be. "I'm so glad. Do you need anything?" Sang smiled at the werewolf next to her.
