We are the Vampires, like living stone.
Sangsue was hunting. She had escaped the confines of the mansion she lived in with Sydonia and their families, escaped the many people looking up to her, and tonight, she was just another citizen. Thank God Vampires were revered in the city, otherwise her attack on another pitiful human would not go unpunished. She hated having to feed from a donor back where she used to be, it felt demeaning. She much enjoyed the freedom to get her own food, and not keep the person alive in the process. She stood still as stone in the middle of the street. There was no movement except her raven black hair twisting in the wind. She closed her eyes, concentrating on the scents carried in the wind. . .Bingo. A human was stupid enough to be walking the streets at this time of night.
He smelled a couple of blocks away, and this was confirmed as she opened her eyes and saw the figure striding towards her slowly. Her muscles tensed, and she smiled a toothy smile. A malicious smile. She was now just an animal, hunting it's prey. Sangsue ran, powerful legs carrying her farther and faster than any human could hope. In a matter of seconds she had passed him. She stopped, and spun toward him. Her passing would have registered as nothing more than a gust of wind to him, the human who should really learn to rely more on his senses. His scent was so strong in the clear night air, it smelled warm, with a promise of satisfaction. Walking up behind him, she clamped down on his shoulders. She did not allow him to spin to see her, just led him silently in to the alley to their right.
She tightened her grip, and whispered to the man in a seductive voice: "Now, this can be quick, easy, and mostly painless for you, or, we can make this interesting and bring more fun for me. Which would you prefer?" He appeared to still be frozen and speechless in the shock of an unknown woman preforming these actions. "Very well, I see you are going to bore me. But oh well, I suppose it will me made up for. You smell delightful, you know." With that, Sangsue opened her jaw wide, and slowly sank her fangs in to the soft flesh of his neck. The rich, irony liquid started flowing in to her mouth. She drank deeply, it had been quite a while since she had eaten. Once the blood stopped coming, she let go of him. He fell, lifeless at her feet. His skin was visibly paler, and the mark, a perfect resemblance of her teeth, was clear on his neck.
Feeling more peaceful than she had in quite a while, Sangsue silently turned out of the alley. Oh, how satisfying it was to go and feel the thrill of the hunt. Unlike the rest of her family, they usually had some unknown creature killed and the blood drained, then brought to them in some ornate chalice. How in the world they could stand that, she had no idea. Perhaps she had spoiled them, growing up in normal conditions would have made their instincts more prominent. But this was not something to think about now. Perhaps back at the house when she could make a note to do something about it. She really should be getting back, but it was such a nice night. It would be quite a gift to meet someone of interest here. Sangsue looked around, but all she saw were streets devoid of life, and the darkness carpeting the sky broken every few blocks by a dim light. The humans were so pathetic, not being able to see in the dark. How she detested them, she honestly did not even know why she allowed them to live here, especially not after the last time. Ah well, that's the kind of influence Sydonia had over her.
We are loyal, enduring, longing; for a life besides our own.

I had a dream I was a werewolf.Sydonia inhaled deeply, closing her eyes. Oh, how she loved the smell of the night around her. She opened her deep grey orbs again, and looked at the city that she had helped create. How long had she been here? It seemed an eternity. And what kept her here? Probably the interesting characters that seemed endlessly coming and ever-present. Her undying loyalty to Sangsue the vampire had led her out of the human world and into this seemingly perfect one. But one thing bothered her at the moment. Her endless windmill of thoughts had halted, and settled on one thing in particular. Whether Sydonia thought of this thing as a blessing or a curse, even she couldn't decide at the moment. She started walking down an alleyway.
The thought that recently had made its resting place on her brain was the fact that Sangsue had a large family of other vampires; her relative vampires were all treated as royalty. And even though Sydonia was treated as royalty also, she had no family. No werewolves that were a blood relative -or even a relative by law or marriage- were living in the House of Royals with her. She really didn't know what to think of this. On one hand, she thought of this as sad, a melancholy fact of true loneliness. But on the other hand, she knew that there was absolutely no one that could hold her back, no one that could convince her in her heart that she shouldn't do something very dangerous. Was this a blessing?
Just as she was coming to the end of the alleyway she was walking along, she saw the narrow street that awaited her, with its scarce street lights and bricks for pavement. Her stride was heavy, but she made no sound. Just as her black Converse hit the first bricks of the street, a rush of cool wind played with her hair and pushed it out of her face. She stopped, and looked to the right. Nothing was in the scarce light. She looked to the left. There was a figure standing that altered the pattern of the light as it tried to reach the ground. A tall shadow splayed out on the ground. Sydonia smirked. Instantly she knew who it was. It was her beloved friend, partner in crime, and partner in ruling this wonder of a city. The one and only, Sangsue.
Without even thinking about it, Sydonia stepped sideways, and within two strides, was on the narrower sidewalk and pressed against the buildings in the shadows. She observed as the vampire started walking. Walking away from Sydonia. So she ran. Stealthily, surreptitiously, and silently. Her long legs stretched out to allow her to gain distance as well as speed, and soon she was a good 20 feet ahead of where Sangsue was. Stopping herself, she reached out with her right hand and grabbed one of the street lamp poles, swinging around it, and with her immense strength, she swung herself up on top of it. Her balance allowed her to stand on top of the pole without struggle. She waited for the vampire to approach.
As she saw Sangsue come up, Sydonia crawled out to the end of where the pole hung over to hold the light, wrapped her legs around it, and dropped down upside down right in front of the vampire as she approached the light. Before Sangsue could even react, Sydonia spoke. "Why hello there. Fancy seeing you out on this hideous night." Sydonia smiled, showing off her long canine incisions on both top and bottom jaw.
My soul was filled with crystal light.

Sangsue was snapped out of her thoughts abruptly, when Sydonia entered her field of vision. Dropping down from above no less. "Well, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, it's Sydonia." She laughed to herself, before returning the playful greeting given by her friend and co-ruler. "Why hello there! I was so hoping to see you tonight." Her blood-stained lips were drawn in to a very wide smile. Looking up at the pole her friend was currently hanging from, she judged that it was pretty strong. She placed her left hand on the pole, and jumped to latch on to it half way up. She pulled herself the rest of the way up swiftly, and laughing, sat with her feet swinging over the side. Well, perched, as the pole was hardly more than an inch wide. "What have you been up to, my good friend? How have you been?" The thought occured to Sangsue of being childishly playful and making Sydonia fall somehow, but they had not talked in too long. She would rather wait until the small talk was over to get in to antics. She licked her lips, thinking back to her recent feast. He had tasted so good, she had been caught at quite a good time. She idly wondered if it would be a better idea to somehow dispose of the body, but could not think of anything that would not pollute her city or it's surrounding area, and still be simple enough to be quick. It would just rot there until another human found it, and stirred up some commotion to be ignored. Her breath came out even, making little clouds of steam in the air. She could be such a child, amused by the little puffs. Perhaps the forest would be nice right now, maybe swimming in the lake, it wasn't freezing. But most people would not like to accompany her. She hadn't been paying as much attention to the city as of late. Had she missed something? What news did Sydonia bring of affairs? Wow, she was thinking more randomly than usual. Of course, her mind was not clouded by hunger any more. It had been quite a while, she always forgot. She needed to take one of her relatives out hunting properly one time. They annoyed her as much as the humans sometimes. So dependant. Not even playful. Speaking of playful, she lightly debated if it would be fun to hang upside down next to her friend. No, not at the moment. We are loyal, enduring, longing; for a life besides our own. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Lavender ribbons of rain sang.Sydonia watched expectantly as she saw her best friend smile, and breathe out right into her face. The smell of fresh blood almost wiped the grin clear from Sydonia's face. She should have suspected that that would be the only reason Sangsue would be roaming around these lonely streets. Sydonia herself had a long history with the temptation of human blood. Being a Hell Hound, she was almost as vampiric as the vampires themselves. And human blood was something that she had to stay away from, that she couldn't dare feel on her tongue. If she wanted to keep any of her self-control at all, she wouldn't touch it. Sydonia watched, still upside down, as Sangsue climbed up the pole herself and perched where Syd's legs were wrapped around the pole. Sydonia couldn't help but recognize to herself just how feline Sang's movements were. How she hated felines.
Sydonia answered her friend's questions, after swinging back upright and perching similar to the way the vampire was. She thought for a second. "Well," she started, "I don't do much except converse with the other beasts of burden like myself." Syd looked out on the lonely, barely lit street. "Like the dragons. You know, they're rather interesting with all of their rituals and poetry. Great writers, they are." Sydonia had a tendency to ramble on about irrelevant things, as her thoughts were so strewn over so many different things. When something hit it, it just flowed out of her mouth. Without thinking about it or paying any attention to what her fellow ruler was doing or saying, Syd jumped down from her perch, and landed on the brick-pavement in a crouching position, then stood up fluidly.
With Sangsue soon following her a couple feet behind, she started walking in the direction she had previously come from, looking for the body of the helpless soul whom the vampire had killed. And soon enough, she found it. Approaching the lifeless figure on the ground, Sydonia looked down at it with a look of relative disgust. She carefully moved her foot to move the human's head to the side, only to have it loll back into place when she moved her foot. She made a clicking sound with her tongue. "Such a pretty one that one," she trailed off, not thinking about it any longer. She thought of who this person had been. Sangsue could have his blood, but if Sydonia could only have his thoughts, his memories. . . She would jump on the opportunity if she had the ability. She turned to the vampire behind her. "Shall we get it out of the middle of the street?"
Syd turned back. After years of practice and learning how to, she could shift into her wolf form whenever she wanted now. She had only been able to do this for about ten years so far, but she was getting better at it, getting quicker. So that was exactly what she did. Her arms jabbed forward violently, and her spine grew and twisted in her back. It was a painful process, but only took about three whole seconds. After, she was the dark, lanky wolf that was her true form. The wolf always kept her head close to the ground, despite the high position at which she ruled. She bent her head down carefully, ears turned backwards and listening to Sangsue's movements. Syd placed her jaw around the dead's shoulder, and was dragging it backwards into an alley nearby. After propping it up against the wall so it appeared it was only sleeping, she looked back to the vampire who had followed her.
But a noise interrupted what Syd was about to do. A noise that was only audible to her extremely sensitive ears. A quick, dull sound. A beating. That of a human heart. Before Sangsue could say a word, Syd snapped her head in the direction where the alley mouthed into the street, only to see a female human about sixteen, standing frozen with fear at the sight of the two in the alley. Sydonia's ears flattened against her head completely as a rumble erupted from her chest, and she stepped a few steps toward the girl.
Ridding my heart of mortal fright.

We are the Vampires, like living stone.
Sangsue listened to her friend as she spoke about the dragons. She hadn't taken the time to converse with them yet, she was still being paranoid and keeping close watch over every aspect of the lives the humans led. Perhaps she would change that. She followed Sydonia without thinking as she alighted on the ground and went to observe the prey which had recently been drained of life. "Such a pretty one that one." Really? Hm. Perhaps he should have been passed over, his children would also have made good meals. . .But that obviously wasn't the context in which the statement was meant. Sang hadn't taken the time to look at him in the first place. Oh well, what's done is done.
She watched in awe as Sydonia changed before her. Somehow she never got used to watching the person she held the most affection for change in to the large animal which now stood before her. Sangsue just followed the wolf that is Sydonia with her eyes, as the human she had previously drained was propped up against the wall. She did not see the point in that, it would just lengthen the amount of time before it was found by a few days. Even humans can easily smell the scent of decaying bodies. But her soft expression shifted to one of alarm at the change in Syd's focus. Turning her head to see what it was that drew her, Sangsue saw a teenage girl standing petrified on the sidewalk at the edge of the alley.
She stared, mind frozen, not sure what to do. Humans were not allowed to see them go about their inhuman activities, what had this girl all seen? No, she could not be allowed to get away. But what should be done? If she was turned out, she would just be another person who was seen as a fanatic, or she could be killed now, and save the trouble of banishing someone else. All the required paperwork for the records would be much more annoying. But on the other hand, she had already eaten enough, and unnecessary blood spilled was such a waste. Of course the werewolf who was tensed by her would be more than enough to dispose of her, but then the faint thought ran across her mind: Sydonia had control problems when dealing with human blood.
Her eyes still locked on the target, Sang quietly murmured to the one beside her, a little more urgently so when she began to advance. "Syd. . .No, no. . .Do not attack her yet. . ." Her hand moved by reaction to her back, a soothing gesture, but she pulled back an inch or so away from the dark brown fur. Probably not the best idea at the moment. Sangsue also stepped forward, moving so that she was slightly in front of her friend, eyes locked on the girl. Every muscle in her body was tensed, and her thoughts were slipping into a more predatory mode. Her mouth opened slightly. A low hiss slipped through her parted jaws. "Dare I ask what you are doing out so late, deary? This city has a curfew. I set it myself. You're lucky I let you live here at all, that might change if you don't decide to start following the rules. They actually have a purpose for your safety, you know." All this was said in a calm, but threatening tone. It was intended to make her run. Which of course would not be allowed.

They say the Devil's water, it ain't so sweet. As Sydonia put one huge paw in front of the other, stepping carefully toward the young girl, she could feel the tenseness in Sangsue's body when she turned also. Sydonia knew that this girl had seen too much for her own good. Something had to be done with her, though before her impulse could take control of her, she heard the vampire's quiet whisper of a voice. Syd. . .No, no. . .Do not attack her yet. . . And was that a hint of nervousness that Syd sensed in her voice? For a split second, she wondered what Sangsue could possibly be nervous about. Syd could easily handle this herself. Syd was forced to look at the vampire when she stepped in front of her, but peeked her canine cranium out to the side to watch the human's expression as Sangsue went into a spiel about how there are laws she needed to follow. The human girl seemed focused on the vampire's beautiful face.
After Sangsue was finished, Sydonia tilted her head to an odd angle. The light that filtered in scarcely from the street lamps on the street hit the wolf's eyes and made them grow a bright, blood red. The human girl rested her eyes on the wolf and made a small gasp. At the sound, the wolf that was Syd made another small rumbling growl, and moved one of her wide paws forward. She was now coming around on the left side of Sangsue, moving ever so slowly. Her silver ears were still pinned flat against her head, and her mouth hung open, showing the long and thin incisions that served as fangs. She moved close to the vampire, and brushed against her leg as the raised up fur on her back was sifted through Sangsue's relaxed hand. Syd wouldn't let this human get away. They couldn't afford it, not another one. And Sydonia figured that Sangsue would comply.
As Sydonia watched, the girl didn't move. What was wrong with her? Wasn't she afraid? Hadn't Sangsue basically told her to run for her life? She seemed frozen cold. Syd slinked forward carefully, feeling all feelings. The tenseness of the vampire behind her. The fast, dull beating heart of the human in front of her. And the blood pulling along through her own veins. All three people's feelings; it was almost too much to bear. Too much to bear yet. She wanted to let them go. Engage in a chase. And as Syd rounded even closer to the human, one of those feelings shifter into a more alive feeling. In the same instant, the human girl drew in a sharp breath, turned, and ran as fast as she could. Without hesitation, Sydonia did the same. A vicious snarl escaped her mouth as she took off at full speed, pursuing the human, without another thought about the vampire left behind in the alley.
But you can dip your feet every once in a little while.

The girl was either incredibly stupid, or. . .No. She was just inctedibly stupid. Why hadn't she run? Sangsue stared in patience, she had all the time in the world. The girls attention seemed to shift from her to the wolf behind her. And then another growl came. But of course. She was aware of Sydonia slinking around her, and felt fur brush through her fingers. They flexed a little. Sangsue watched unmoving as the distance between the others shortened, and still the girl didn't move. Why? A clear threat had been given, even humans had enough sense to know when they weren't wanted, and to run when they felt threatened.
Every muscle in Sangsue's body was tensed, every thought applicable to a fight or confrontation moving through her mind. Then the scene changed, and she barely had time to react. Both Sydonia and the girl disappeared around the corner, and she followed in a flash. At first just running to work up a good speed, she then focused on the chase. The girl was a fast runner, especially for a human. But even the fastest human could not outrun them. Never. She hadn't even gotten a block before Sydonia caught up with her, Sangsue stopping beside them only a moment later.

I've got this energy beneath my feetSydonia kept a steady pace, placing her paws heavily but precisely as she ran after the teenaged girl. Half of her chased to kill; half of her chased for amusement. Either way, she chased the girl down the brick paved street at a fast lope. She had to admit that the girl was a pretty good runner. Sydonia admired her lithe stance that she kept, and stumble she did not. If only Syd could be that beautiful a mover when in her human form. But of course, her human form was quite screwed up, seeing as years of shifting into her animalistic side through a grotesque procedure. Her bone structure would never be the same. Sydonia watched the girl that was slowly getting closer to the wolf, though not by means of her own slowing down, but by the wolf gaining speed.
The girl's long, dirty blonde hair was pulled up into a ponytail. It flew out in frays behind her as she ran as fast as her long legs would carry her. Suddenly, Sydonia felt another presence. And it could only be that of the vampire that she had left behind. Syd's mind stopped for a moment. Oh. She had forgotten that there was someone else with her. Oh well. Nevertheless, she kept on running, even if she knew that the vampire wouldn't be very happy with her. She wasn't in control of this bestial wolf. Syd kept running and waiting. Waiting for some sign that she should attack, that she should pounce. She was like a cheetah chasing its prey and waiting for the precise time to stop running and actually catch the meal. They ran several blocks down the street before Syd saw what she was waiting for.
A stumble. Yes, that was it! The girl in front of Sydonia misstepped in her stride, and her balance was shifted forward violently. But she did not fall. This did not matter, however, as the wolf finally got what she had been waiting for. In the same second that the girl had tripped over her own feet, the dark wolf lunged, using all of the strength in her hind legs to send herself forward. She hit the girl as the teenager was trying to recover from her near-fall. But she never did. She was thrust to the ground by the sheer force the wolf had hit her with. Sydonia wrapped her front legs loosely around the girl's torso as she fell, only to hold onto her and see that she doesn't try to get away. As the girl hit the ground, a strangled scream escaped from her lips, but was quickly cut off as the wind was knocked from her.
They landed, one on top of the other, and the wolf pinning the girl to the ground. Sydonia growled menacingly in the face of the blonde, and she did nothing but let out a few struggled sobs. At this point, Syd didn't know what to do first. How long had it been since she'd had a fix of human flesh. . . As a matter of fact, she couldn't recall the last time. Perhaps it was because she had lost all sense of control after that. But none of those thoughts crossed Sydonia's mind as she grinned a wolfish grin in the terrified face of the girl, and there was nothing she could do about it.
Like something underground's gonna come up and carry me.

We are the vampires, like living stone.
Sangsue had to admit, this girl was good. It's a pity one of the better ones had to stumble upon them. It was amazing that she seemed to hold sanity enough to run, and for as far as she had. But Sydonia had shortly caught up with her anyway, of course. Sangsue calmly debated whether or not to let this continue. Normally, she would want a part in the killing. But her blood lust had been satisfied for the night. While this one must surely die, another might come along. There seemed to be too many of them out roaming tonight. It was rare to find one normally. And if they came along, then surely 3 in such a short time would draw somones attention. And while they didn't care who had a problem, they much preferred not to arouse question.
Sangsue had no problem with more humans dying. None at all. In fact, she would kill them all. But there were far too many. To many came in. And they didn't have a way to get rid of all the bodies. Still though, it would get rid of a few of the minor complications in her life. So no objection was presenting itself, she obviously was not going to stop Sydonia from ripping this girl limb from limb. Or whatever she had in mind. So Sang stood by patiently. There was no point in running off.

Because my backbone is paper thin. The teenaged girl's screams laced the late night air as Sydonia sank her long incisions into the girl's shoulder. It was a clear shot, but the skin was obscured by clothing, as the girl was wearing a long sleeved shirt. Sydonia drew back neatly after biting once, to gain composure to tear through the cloth. By the time she had lowered her head once again, the shirt was beginning to be stained with the dark, crimson red of the human's blood. As quickly as she could, Syd tore the fabric away with her teeth so that she had full access to the girl's shoulder. Again, her teeth were sunk into the soft skin of the human, and blood flowed out and around in the wolf's mouth. It had a sharp metallic taste, and was warm.
Something clicked in Sydonia's mind. Perhaps it was the realization of how much she loved the taste of human blood. Perhaps it was the fact that she knew she wanted more of it right in this moment. Either way, she paused as her teeth were still invading the human's flesh, and a low rumble emanated from her chest. The girl was still screaming, and the sound came to the wolf's ears like music now. Shrill, harsh. She loved it. Now, instead of drawing her teeth out carefully, she tore at the girl's flesh of her right shoulder. She kicked and screamed underneath the huge wolf, but to no avail, because the wolf's sheer bulk held her to the ground. Syd continued to shred at the human, and soon, her screams faded to whimpers and her blood puddled on the ground.
Without hesitation, Syd turned away from the girl's torso and reached swiftly to her neck. She bit down on the vital body part with such force and so quickly that the light left the human's eyes at once with a sickening crack! The wolf stood above the now lifeless body, her back and shoulders rising slightly with each heaving breath she took in and exhaled. She couldn't think straight. What was she doing? There was a presence behind her. But she couldn't remember who it was.
Get me out of this cavern, or I'll cave in.
